Good-Bye Sweet Gracie

In the summer of 2007 two dogs, Asher and Maddie Jo, lived on Black Swan Lane with Beth and Pete

in Las Vegas

Then, early one morning when Beth, Asher and Maddie Jo were on their way to the dog park they saw a small Weimaraner walking down the street all by herself.  They searched high and low for her people, but no one knew her. It seemed only natural that this petite, dainty girl be called Gracie and join the Wetzler pack.

Then there were three

The three didn't always get along, but they were always a family.

When Beth and Pete decided to leave Las Vegas the 3 dogs went with them

All the way to Mercer, Wisconsin.

They exchanged the desert for lakes and woods.

This past summer Gracie battled Cushings disease and complications related to the illness.  She lost a lot of weight and had some tough days, but that didn't stop her from learning a new skill - paddle boarding!

As summer turned to fall and fall to winter Gracie grew weaker and the daily walks became harder for her.

Just after the holidays, on January 3, 2014 Gracie died at home surrounded by her family.

It was a cold, snowy, gray day.
Now there are two.

Good-bye sweet Gracie.
Keep an eye on us - as you always did.

Sled Dogs, Smokey's and Snowshoes

Pete and I caught another sled dog race this weekend.  The Three Bear Sled Dog Races were held about an hour away in the town of Land O' Lakes.

Not all of the dogs look like the sled dogs you read about. In fact, many of the dogs just looked like run of the mill dogs.

There were a lot of teams that were not made up of Malamutes or Huskies, but I didn't see a single Weimaraner pulling a sled - doesn't mean it couldn't happen.

Walk in the woods on Sunday morning.
We had a nice dinner at Smokey's in Manitowish Waters on Saturday evening.

On Saturday I headed over to Lake Tomahawk for their Winter Festival.  It was a little rainy, but snowshoe baseball carried on. Oddly enough, snowshoe baseball is a summer activity in Lake Tom with games held every Monday night, June through August. It was strange to see the game being played in the snow.
