Berry Berry Good

We were looking for strawberries in Bayfield last weekend, but we were too early. This weekend I drove down to Eagle River and found that I was almost too late.

Ludwig's this way.

Ludwig's was open on Saturday, but they only had small strawberries left to pick and they planned to close for the season after today.

I know there are a million ways to enjoy fresh strawberries, but I just like them plain. These little berries were just delicious, but next year I'll get out there earlier in the season.

Gwen and Joe Came to Wisconsin

Gwen and Joe flew in from California to celebrate the 4th of July in Mercer.  It was so nice to see them and to show them around the Northwoods.

Ashland is about an hour northeast of Mercer. We stopped for lunch at the beautiful Chequamegon Hotel on the way to Bayfield.

On to Bayfield. A half an hour later we were in Bayfield enjoying the shops, flowers and ice cream.

The next day we visited the cranberry bog and Little Bohemia in Manotowish Waters.

A 4th of July celebration would not be complete without a homemade fireworks show provided by Pete and enthusiastically cheered on by Asher.
